Public Enemies Filming in Oshkosh Gallery

Public Enemies wrapped shooting in Oshkosh on Friday, and they are now set to start filming in Northwoods, at Little Bohemia in Manitowish Waters. For the past week, Director Michael Mann’s production company turned a large part of downtown Oshkosh into a 1930s movie set for the site of two different bank robberies. Film crews wrapped up a frantic last day of shooting in downtown Oshkosh at 6 p.m. Friday.

During the afternoon, film crews made rapid shifts from inside the bank building at 404 N. Main St. to the bank’s exterior and over to Washington Avenue. The brisk pace kept crowds struggling to keep up as vintage cars moved from set to set and the sound of guns rang out in different locations.

At 4:20 p.m. Friday, the sound of machine gun fire brought groups of people scrambling from vantage points behind the Exclusive Co., where the Main Street scenes were visible, over to Washington Avenue where additional scenes were shot in front of the Masonic Temple.

The teardown on North Main Street began first thing Saturday morning. Crews spent most of the day tearing down awnings, storefronts, signs and everything else that rewound Oshkosh to the 1930s.

Gallery Updates

I have added 741 screencaps of the 1994 film Backbeat. It tells the story of The Beatles when they were first starting out. Stephen plays the ‘fifth Beatle’, Stuart Sutcliffe, who had only a passing interest in music and a passion for painting. It’s a story of love, music, friendship, innocence lost and legends born.

I have also added to the gallery various Photoshoots, Blood and Wine promotionals, and thanks again to Michelle for 2 new photos of Stephen on the set of Public Enemies in Columbus and Oshkosh.

And lastly, there’s a great read about Stephen filming Public Enemies here.

‘Public Enemies’ starts shooting in Chicago

After weeks of speculation, visits by Hollywood scouts and casting calls, Governor Jim Doyle officially announced a deal with Universal Pictures to bring the film Public Enemies to the Badger State this spring. The production will be shot in multiple locations around Wisconsin.

Based on the book of the same name by Bryan Burrough, the movie will follow the exploits of John Dillinger, the original “Public Enemy Number One,” as he and his gang are pursued by the FBI across the Upper Midwest from 1933-’34. It is being produced and directed by Academy Award nominee Michael Mann.

Public Enemies boasts an impressive cast, one that is growing in profile week by week. Leading the way as Dillinger is Johnny Depp. Christian Bale will be playing FBI agent Melvin Purvis, and Marion Cotillard, is playing Evelyn “Billie” Frechette, a young Wisconsin-born woman who was Dillinger’s main squeeze during his final year in action.

Rounding out the cast is Channing Tatum as Pretty Boy Floyd, Giovanni Ribisi as Alvin Karpis, and Stephen Dorff as Homer Van Meter.

Dorff is currently in Chicago for pre-production and has been all over the place, including catching shows at the House of Blues and rockin’ out with DJ Whiteshadow at Manor. The film will shoot in Chicago and around Wisconsin from March through June.

More Public Enemies Cast

Casting is continuing apace on the eagerly anticipated gangster film Public Enemies, which recounts the story of the Dillinger gang — the notorious bank robbers who brought their deadly brand of illegal skulduggery to depression-era America.
Johnny Depp was already set to play Dillinger himself, while Christian Bale has been cast as Melvin Bale – the FBI agent who tried to bring him down.
Now, according to Variety, director Micheal Mann (Heat, Miami Vice) has signed up five new faces for the project.
Dillinger’s gang has now been cast, with Channing Tatum (also the latest addition to G.I. Joe), Blade’s Stephen Dorff, Giovanni “Phoebe’s brother in Friends” Ribisi and Jason Clarke all set to play the criminal ensemble.
Marion Cotillard, meanwhile, who many consider an Oscar shoo-in for her performance as French warbler Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose, will play Billie Frechette, Dillinger’s lover.
The film, based on the best selling non-fiction book of the same name, will begin shooting in Chicago on March 10.

Stephen’s Deuces Wild co-star dead at 25

bradstephen.jpg

As you all may have heard, actor Brad Renfro died during the week. Stephen’s one-time co-star in Deuces Wild was found dead in his LA residence. Renfro was found unresponsive on Tuesday and was pronounced dead at 9 a.m. No signs of foul play or visible injury were detected. The cause of death is yet to be determined. Autopsy reports will not be released for six weeks.

Johnny Knoxville who also starred in Deuces spoke to The Insider about Brad’s tragic death.

“I really liked Brad,” Knoxville said. “[He was] extremely charming and [had] a good heart. Yeah, he got into a little trouble, but he was a sweet, sweet kid.

“I don’t like to be talking about him in the past tense,” he added. “He was a hometown boy who did real good, and it breaks my heart he is gone. He was so young and so sweet.

“It makes me very sad.”

Scoop from the set of XIII

We just received this information from a person who wants to remain anonymous, but it’s still an interesting information.

I am actually working with Stephen on “XIII” in Toronto and Hamilton, where he is shooting, on location, until the end of January.
FYI he has cut off all his hair. He did it for a prison movie shoot-and is keeping it off for the character of XIII.

Thank you for letting us know!
